on the 14th of May 1965…

P. Flannerys Bar, Shannon Street first opened its doors on the 14th of May 1965 but is steeped in history that goes back to Rearcross, Co.Tipperary in 1898 when the Flannerys first opened a pub, The Rising Sun. The Rising Sun is still operating but is now run by the Carey family,

Phil Flannery served his time working in bars in Dublin in the 50’s where he plied his trade learning from members who owned ‘The Temple Bar’, ‘The Palace Bar’ in Fleet Street aswell as Fitzgeralds of Sandycove. Phil then returned to Limerick where he worked with his brothers before opening his own premises in Shannon Street. Phil still works in the bar with his son Paul, his wife Eilise and their young family.

Come for the company and stay for the friendship….

The pub is a hive of activity throughout the week and is always buzzing with activity and the sound of chatter and laughter. A traditional run pub, just off the main thoroughfare, it is ideally situated to base yourself in the heart of Limericks shopping and nightlife centre. Serving food six days a week and music three nights a week there is something for everyone. The welcome you get will make you feel like a regular immediately and definitely sway your decision when you are debating to move on.
